The library makes the information more available to students who buy the information which ends up giving profit to the author, the publisher, the faculty member, the library and the students.

The author rarely gets much for a book, unless he is a "blockbuster" like John Grisham or Tom Clancy. The publisher doesn't make much these days, either. Yet, libraries and faculty and students often can't afford the prices of the books, which are normally set higher and higher because fewer sell. It's a difficult cycle to break.
